Writer-director Sylvester Stallone has been very vocal about his disappointment with the lack of "real" action heroes in today's movies. Stallone, who has criticized the extensive use of CGI and "wire works" in modern action movies, opted to shoot "actual, physical stunts" for his new movie, The Expendables.
Unfortunately for Stallone, the rough-and-tumble "mano a mano" style of acting he employed in The Expendables had disastrous consequences. He recently revealed that he suffered a hairline fracture in his neck while filming a "vicious" fight sequence with co-star "Stone Cold" Steve Austin.
I had to have a very serious operation afterwards. I now have a metal plate in my neck.
However, today's seen-it-all, heard-it-all movie fans were immediately skeptical of Stallone's story, with many blogs and forum posts speculating that the whole thing was just a publicity stunt to get people interested in the movie. Apparently, Stallone caught wind of some of the comments by fans because he released a couple x-rays of his neck to StalloneZone along with the following note:
For the doubters and the haters, a picture is worth a thousand words. You walk the walk, you pay a price. But, as bad as it was at least we have it on film.
P.S. To the haters, I don’t need to invent pain, there’s enough of it out there to go around.
P.S.S. The reason I was never seen in a neck brace is because I stayed home for three weeks to heal.
The Expendables also stars Dolph Lundgren, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Mickey Rourke, Randy Couture, and Terry Crews. Posted 01.16.10 by BrentJS
