Despite appearances in movies like Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and Live Free or Die Hard, actress Mary Elizabeth Winstead has never strayed too far from her horror roots, which started with 2006's Final Destination 3 and Black Christmas and continued to last year's The Thing. For Winstead's latest journey into the genre, she will team with The Last Exorcism director Daniel Stamm for The Darkness.
Written by Megan Holley (Sunshine Cleaning) and loosely based on Henry James' classic novel Turn of the Screw, The Darkness will follow Winstead as a young American student who looks after young children in a British manor and is convinced they are the victims of a haunting.
Screen Daily reports that The Darkness will start shooting in Europe this summer and that British distributor HanWay Films has already agreed to release the movie internationally. "We were blown away by The Last Exorcism," said HanWay managing director Thorsten Schumacher. "Given the recent box office success of the ghost movie genre in attracting the sought after younger audience, the timing is perfect to bring this haunting thriller to the marketplace." goodman pairs with eastwood; alexander plots to kill >> Posted 02.09.12 by Ryan
