Dark Shadows, director Tim Burton's adaptation of the late 1960s-early 70s soap opera, didn't exactly have the kind of opening weekend that Burton, Warner Bros. and star Johnny Depp were hoping for, but that hasn't slowed down the adaptation of The Night Stalker, an even more obscure property that began as a 1970s ABC TV movie starring Darren McGavin and eventually became the TV series Kolchak: The Night Stalker that originally aired from 1974-75. Depp and his Infinitum Nihil production company started developing the movie for Disney last summer, and hired director Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) in February to "oversee and develop" The Night Stalker. The first step, obviously, was to hire a screenwriter and it looks like Wright and Depp have found him.
