"I always carry my gun to a knife fight."
Journey back in time to a dangerous, exotic city called Jungle Village where warring clans with supernatural powers battle over gold. Chop Sock-it-to me! >> Posted 02.11.13 by BrentJS
Like Charlie's Angels, but dangerous!
Even though the The Expendables 2 was a bit redundant and perhaps too self-aware at times, it was still an entertaining action movie with all-star cast appeal. A sequel is already in development, with Wesley Snipes, Nicolas Cage, Harrison Ford and Clint Eastwood all being courted to join the cast. Noticeably absent from that list are the names of any female action movie stars. We say, if the gimmick of the franchise is surprising new cast additions, why not push it further than bringing in Indy by bringing in Ripley or The Bride.
Or, better yet, how about a stand-alone movie with an all-female cast of female action heroes from yesterday and today? Just think of the possibilities!
Imagine a revenge movie written and directed by Quentin Tarantino about an all-female super-spy team run by Sigourney Weaver, with members that include: Uma Thurman as the knife expert; Gina Carano as the pugilist/demolitions expert; Jada Pinkett Smith as the animal/gun expert; Kate Beckinsale as the poison expert/seductress; Chloë Moretz as the trainee (Fox Force Five!). But, enough about our fantasy she-woman action movie. We want to know what you think: Which female action movie stars of yesterday and today do you think could make the line-up in an all-female Expendables-style movie?

We've been hearing about Grammy-winning music producer, musician, emcee and actor RZA's (Californication) long-gestating martial arts movie, The Man With the Iron Fists, since 2008, and now the first riotous, raucous Red-band trailer for the movie has finally been released. Co-written (with Eli Roth) and directed by RZA, The Man With the Iron Fists was inspired by classic action-adventure kung-fu movies like The 36th Chamber of Shaolin (1978) and features an eclectic ensemble cast that includes Lucy Liu, Jamie Chung, Pam Grier and Academy Award-winner Russell Crowe. Here's the synopsis:
Since his arrival in China’s Jungle Village, the town’s blacksmith (RZA) has been forced by radical tribal factions to create elaborate tools of destruction. When the clans’ brewing war boils over, the stranger channels an ancient energy to transform himself into a human weapon. As he fights alongside iconic heroes and against soulless villains, one man must harness this power to become savior of his adopted people. MORE >> Posted 06.29.12 by BrentJS
Adrien Brody stars as Henry Barthes, a substitute teacher and lost soul grappling with a troubled past, in Detachment. Barthes finds himself at a public school where an apathetic student body has created a frustrated, burned-out administration. Barthes inadvertently becomes a role model to his students, while also bonding with a runaway teen who is just as lost as he is.
Called a "harrowing depiction of the American educational system" by The Hollywood Reporter, Detachment is the long-awaited movie from director Tony Kaye (Amercian History X). Its stellar ensemble cast includes Marcia Gay Harden, Christina Hendricks, William Petersen, Bryan Cranston, Tim Blake Nelson, Lucy Liu, Blythe Danner, James Caan, and newcomers Sami Gayle and Betty Kaye. In a recent interview with Playboy, Shia LaBeouf spoke about his car accident last July and expressed contrition for his mistakes. LaBeouf was driving while intoxicated, and his Ford F-150 collided with another vehicle, causing it to flip over.
He suffered some injuries to his head and knee and had extensive surgery on his left hand, briefly curtailing his ability to work. He said that he still feels pain when performing some basic daily routines, but at the same time, he feels that the experience was a needed wake-up call:
This accident is what I needed in my life. I'm not in control. For the first time, I can admit that and know that -- the hand is like a tattoo that says "Mistake."
LaBeouf also talked about his childhood, when he starred on Disney's Evan Stevens. According to him, there might be footage in a Disney vault of him running naked around the set. He also talked about the permissive environment he grew up in, around LA's Echo Park area, as well as crushing on Lucy Liu, who he said "would play with my mind" on the set of Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle.
He also gave a pithy description of director Michael Bay, who directed him in the upcoming Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen:
He'll blow things up for no reason, just to get a reaction. The guy's a maniac. Posted 05.01.09 by reelz
It's been nearly six years since the last Charlie's Angels flick, Full Throttle. Does that mean it's time for another? According to the franchise co-star and co-producer Drew Barrymore, yes! Promoting for her 2009 Oscar hopeful He's Just Not Into You, Barrymore said, "I'm so into it -- 'Charlie's Angels III!'"
Her Flower Films producing partner Nancy Juvonen says, "It's percolating up...It's rising to the surface." Given that the careers of other angels Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu haven't exactly been kicking ass, we're guessing the chances of seeing a third Charlie's Angels are pretty good. People are already talking about the introduction of a fourth angel and who might possibly play the role. Perez Hilton votes for Megan Fox. Hot, sure, but what about a more surprising casting choice? Rumor Willis, anyone? Posted 01.26.09 by reelz
