In August, five actresses were in contention for one of two female roles in Universal's upcoming sci-fi epic Horizons (formerly titled Oblivion), a role that was eventually won by Jessica Chastain (The Help, The Tree of Life). The movie stars Tom Cruise as a lonely man named Jack who repairs the drones that fight aliens on the planet's surface in a post-apocalyptic future.
Deadline reports that Hayley Atwell (Captain America), Diane Kruger (Inglourious Basterds), and Kate Beckinsale (Underworld) are all traveling to Pittsburgh this weekend to read for the role with Cruise, who is currently shooting the adaptation of One Shot in the city. According to the report, the actresses are vying for the role of a mysterious young woman who crash lands on Earth, much to Cruise's surprise, which would mean that Chastain has been cast as Julia, Jack's fiancee on Earth before the alien invasion. washington gets Unchained >> Posted 10.27.11 by Ryan
Academy Award-nominated actor Liam Neeson recently revealed that a sequel is in the works to his 2009 surprise hit thriller, Taken. Until then, however, fans of the brawny Irishman's more action-packed movies will no doubt enjoy Unknown, which has a similar vibe as Taken in that it is equal parts mystery and thriller set against a European backdrop with Neeson (practically) alone against seemingly insurmountable odds.
Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (Orphan), Unknown follows Dr. Martin Harris (Neeson) as he wakes up from a coma to find that his wife (January Jones) doesn't recognize him and that another man (Aidan Quinn) has taken over his life. Determined to return to the life he used to know, Dr. Harris is set upon by mysterious assassins bent on silencing him forever. Diane Kruger also stars. watch four preview clips >> Posted 02.09.11 by BrentJS
The wheels on the Superman reboot casting rumor mill keep on turning.
First came reports that several actresses were on a shortlist for the Lois Lane role — including Olivia Wilde and Kristen Stewart (whose reps denied the rumor). Then actresses Alice Eve, Diane Kruger, and Rosamund Pike were reportedly in contention for an undisclosed female lead role that wasn't Lois Lane, which led to speculation that Lane wouldn't be used in the franchise reboot. Latino Review clarified this rumor, raising fans' spirits by noting that Lois Lane will be in the Superman reboot, and revealing that Eve, Kruger, and Pike were instead testing for the villainous role of Ursa, seen in 1980's Superman II. According to Kruger, however, the actress isn't up for either. Lohan to play a "major character"? >> Posted 02.09.11 by Ryan
Just as soon as Henry Cavill was cast as Clark Kent, aka Superman, in Zack Snyder's Superman franchise reboot, casting speculation quickly turned to who would be playing Superman's main squeeze, Lois Lane, with everyone from Kristen Stewart to Olivia Wilde being mentioned. Then, there was talk that Lois might not even make an appearance in the movie as Alice Eve, Diane Kruger, and Rosamund Pike were all said to be vying for an undisclosed role.
Now, popular — though not always reliable — entertainment site LatinoReview is claiming to have answers to a couple of the big questions surrounding the Superman reboot. According to the site's "most trusted reliable source," Lois will be in the movie, and the role that Eve, Kruger, and Pike are up for is none other than the villainous Ursa from Superman's own home planet of Krypton. what's the deal with ursa? >> Posted 02.08.11 by BrentJS

A casting notice including Green Lantern's love interest Carol Ferris was found in September, and it appears that Warner Brothers has narrowed its selection to five actresses. According to Latino Review, either Eva Green (Casino Royale), Keri Russell (Mission Impossible III), Jennifer Garner (Elektra), Diane Kruger (Inglourious Basterds), or Blake Lively (Gossip Girl) will play the part.
Our thoughts: Garner is certainly no stranger to comic book movie fans, but Elektra left a lot to be desired, while Russell provided the voice of Wonder Woman in the animated movie Warners and DC released this year. Kruger had a star-making turn in Basterds, while Lively seems ... largely out of place here. Green may have the upper hand considering that she worked with director Martin Campbell before on Casino Royale. Still, the casting will likely be contingent on how the ladies match up with Ryan Reynolds.

Frank Langella has signed on to star opposite Liam Neeson, Diane Kruger, and January Jones in the Jaume Collet-Serra-directed thriller Unknown White Male, according to Variety.
The script is based on the Didier Van Cauwelaert novel Hors de moi (Out of My Head) and tells the story of a man (Neeson) who wakes from a coma following a car accident. He finds that his wife of ten years (Jones) does not recognize him and has struck a relationship with another man who has stolen his identity.
Both Kruger and Langella will portray characters that help the protagonist in his quest to recover his identity and his relationship with his wife.
This will be the fourth project for Langella following his Oscar-nominated performance in Frost/Nixon. He had a memorable role as the enigmatic Arlington Steward in Richard Kelly's The Box and has completed shooting on Andrew Jarecki's thriller All Good Things and Oliver Stone's sequel Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps.
