In December of last year, Warner Bros. finally convinced Tom Cruise to officially commit to an adaptation of All You Need is Kill, after months of trying to talk the actor into accepting the role. Based on Hiroshi Sakurazaka's novel, Cruise will play a futuristic soldier caught in a time loop as he fights a war against an alien race and is forced to repeat his final day, slowly realizing that he might be able to change his fate.
After all those months of convincing, now the project is just a matter of timing. After shooting the action/thriller adaptation One Shot last fall, Cruise will start production on Tron: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski's Untitled Sci-fi Project (formerly titled both Horizons and Oblivion) later this year. Director Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity, Mr. & Mrs. Smith) is set to direct and recently told Collider that he would like to make All You Need is Kill his "next" movie, but admitted that he, Warner Bros. and Cruise are still "figuring out everyone’s schedules" to see if "we can, in fact, do it next." more from Liman on "totally original" All You Need is Kill >> Posted 01.23.12 by Ryan
