70-year-old Austrian director Michael Haneke may not be a household name in the United States, but Haneke is beloved by film festivals abroad and his popularity in the States is picking up. This is due perhaps in part to a fake Twitter account and most certainly due to an Academy Award win for Best Foreign Language Film and Best Picture nomination for last year's French-language drama Amour. The movie explored the relationship between a husband and wife after the latter has two debilitating strokes and the former remains unwaveringly devoted to her care.
Just days prior to the Academy Awards telecast, Haneke's Amour won five awards at the César Awards, the French version of the Oscars, and, during the telecast, a sketch aired that parodied Haneke's work by imagining what the director might do were he to land the director's chair for Star Wars Episode VII. The results mixes Haneke's work on Amour with Star Wars, but doesn't require one to have seen Amour to understand the jokes, not even when Chewbacca shows up. watch the sketch >> Posted 03.06.13 by Ryan
