It's not just the witch's gingerbread you shouldn't trust.
One of the current trends in movie theaters lately has been movies that classic fairy tales and add an intriguing twist, whether it's extrapolating the world within the fairy tale such as in last year's Snow White and the Huntsman or taking fairy tale characters and putting them in a completely recreated universe, such as this weekend's number one movie at the box office, Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters. The trend continues with Tribeca Film's Hansel & Gretel Get Baked, which takes the fairy tale and sets it in modern day and then, as the title implies, adds marijuana. trailers to satisfy your hunger

For an actor so young, Twilight's Michael Welch has been on TV and movie screens for ages, acting in nearly every genre. It should be no surprise, then, that his favorite movie adopts such a wide view of the world. Take a look at what it is below:

Robert Pattinson wasn't the only good-looking guy to audition for the role of the sexy lead vampire who steals Bella Swan's heart in Twilight. Originally Michael Welch was sent by his manager to audition for the part of Edward Cullen, but as he told Reelz Channel, that didn't quite work out: Posted 07.02.09 by reelz
Turns out Carlise Cullen isn't the only vampire with a compassionate streak. This 4th of July, in a benefit for the Make-A-Wish foundation of Oregon, some of the Twilight and New Moon cast members are taking part in a day of Vampire Baseball.
The Portland event starts with a fans game in the morning. Some of the winners from that game will then face off with cast in the afternoon, playing a game in front of stands filled with Twilighters. A percentage of ticket sales from the event benefit the charity that grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.
If you can't make it to the event — scheduled to have Rachelle Lefevre, Peter Facinelli, Edi Gathegi, Michael Welch, Solomon Trimble, Christian Serratos, Ayanna Berkshire, Catherine Grimme, Alex Meraz, and Kiowa Gordon at bat — don't worry. We're going to be there to report on it and will have footage to share in coming weeks.
And yes, you read that right. Even the evil Victoria is choosing to spend her holiday helping kids. Posted 07.02.09 by reelz
Michael Welch plays one of Bella's mortal friends in Twilight. We recently talked to him about the upcoming New Moon and Eclipse movies. He also showed Naibe Reynoso snapshots of his pre-Twilight career. You can see the full interview below. Posted 06.30.09 by reelz
Naibe Reynoso is a correspondent for ReelzChannel TV's Movie News, and occasionally shares stories from the field.
I recently spoke with Michael Welch — or Mike Newton, for the legions of Twilight fans. After wrapping up filming for New Moon, he's onto his next project, participating this weekend in the Young Playwrights Festival in Los Angeles.
Welch is playing the lead in After Maren, a one-act play about a young man who struggles to keep his life intact as his sister's ghost haunts him. A big fan of the stage, Welch died his hair for another play right before the Twilight premiere, making him one of the few cast members who went from blond to brunette. Posted 06.18.09 by reelz
MTV recently spoke to the cast of New Moon, who revealed a few important details about the upcoming movie.
Edward actor Robert Pattinson said of the movie's scale, "I liked doing Twilight, but it felt very much like an indie movie -- and [New Moon] definitely feels like it's a big movie." Mike Welch, the man behind Bella-admirer Mike Newton, talked about the Bella-Jacob-Mike date scene from the book, and attributed its inclusion in the movie to co-stars Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner.
Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner had to lobby to get this one scene in the film that wasn't originally in -- and I am forever indebted to them for that. There's a scene that's in the book, the three-way date between Jacob and Bella and Mike, where Mike ends up getting sick, and it's just very awkward.
Ashley Greene also confirmed Alice's Porsche-stealing scene had been filmed, and said "It was really fun." Twilighters can now relax and stop worrying about director Chris Weitz, as it looks like all their favorite scenes will be included in the movie. As long as he doesn't mess up the much adored semi-proposal, he'll be sure to stay on fans' good sides. Posted 06.11.09 by reelz
Anna Kendrick (Jessica), Justin Chon (Eric), Christian Serratos (Angela) and Michael Welch (Mike Newton) were all spotted arriving in Vancouver, where Twilight sequel New Moon is currently being filmed.
The human characters are joining vampires and werewolves on the set of the movie, as Kristen Stewart and co. have already been busy shooting scenes over the past couple of weeks.
All that's missing from the cast is the remaining members of the Volturi, who are key characters in the final chapters of the book. Dakota Fanning and Jamie Campbell Bower are the only confirmed Volturi actors so far, though expect further announcements fairly soon. With a domestic release date set for November 20th, Summit had better stop counting their money and get a move on. Posted 04.06.09 by reelz
