With the movie's release just a few weeks away, Lionsgate is getting the word out about The Last Exorcism, the Eli Roth-produced, Daniel Stamm-directed horror movie that opens August 27. The movie follows Patrick Fabian as a renowned exorcism "expert" who is ready to show the truth behind the "exorcism" business and brings a documentary crew to expose the final ritual of Nell Sweetzer, a supposedly possessed young girl. Dread Central debuted the latest poster, which depicts Nell (Ashley Bell) performing a creepy repose near the room's ceiling. Roth told Fox news that Bell's performance is one of the keys to the movie's realistic scares.
We wanted our exorcism to feel raw, real, and fresh, like you are truly in the room with someone who could be possessed. We didn't use any makeup, CGI, or special effects in [Bell's] scenes, it’s all her doing everything you see, down to the bulging veins on her neck and the back bends.
