Director Oren Peli made his career with the low-budget horror movie Paranormal Activity, which used unknown actors, a limited budget, and a subjective camera technique to craft a legitimately scary movie, at least to audiences who don't usually go see them. Peli continued to work with the "found video footage" style into his next directorial effort, the upcoming Area 51, which follows a group of teenagers that venture into the famed site in the Nevada desert that houses supposed extraterrestrial activity. Peli has been quiet about Area 51 over the past year, but there will be less secrecy surrounding his next directorial effort, an adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe's short story, "Eliza Graves."
According to Variety, the project has been searching for a director for years before Peli was attached. Joe Gangemi adapted the screenplay, which follows a Harvard Medical School graduate who "takes a job at an insane asylum, unaware of the fact that it has been taken over by its occupants."
No word on when the movie will start production or when it will be released. Peli's Area 51 is also awaiting a release date. Posted 11.08.10 by Ryan
