A biopic about Hall-of-Fame baseball star Jackie Robinson was first announced in June, and may be courting its first actor.
Vulture reports Jack Nicholson has been offered an unspecified role in the movie, titled 42 after Robinson's jersey number. The report speculates that Nicholson could be asked to play Branch Rickey, the Brooklyn Dodgers executive who signed Robinson to a minor-league contract in 1945. Rickey would sign Robinson to a Major League contract two years later, making Robinson the first African-American player to join the league.
Brian Helgeland, who wrote the screenplays for last year's Robin Hood and L.A. Confidential, and wrote and directed 2001's A Knight's Tale, is attached to write and direct the biopic, with Robinson's widow, Rachel Robinson collaborating to maintain biographical authenticity. more added to The Dark Knight Rises; Noreiga to take on Schwarzenegger in The Last Stand >>
