Only days after the first TV spot for M. Night Shyamalan's new movie, The Last Airbender, aired during Superbowl XLIV at a reported cost of $2.5 million, Paramount Pictures has released the first full theatrical trailer. Produced in conjunction with MTV Films and Nickelodeon Movies, Shyamalan's movie is based on the popular animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender that aired for three seasons on Nickelodeon and the Nicktoons Network. The movie is the first chapter in a planned trilogy.
The Last Airbender takes place in a fantastic world where the Air, Water, and Earth Nations have been consumed in conflict with the cruel Fire Nation. All hope for a peaceful world seems lost until the discovery that young Aang (played by Noah Ringer) is the last remaining Avatar, a being capable of controlling all four elements. Accompanied by Katara (Nicola Peltz), a Waterbender, and her brother Sokka (Jackson Rathbone), Aang quests to defeat Fire Lord Ozai (Cliff Curtis) and bring an end to the conflict that has nearly destroyed his world. Kirsten Prout is new to the Twilight world, having only joined for the third movie, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, where she will play Lucy, a vampire that turns Jasper (Jackson Rathbone) into a vampire in the movie's backstory. Prout told IESB that she is enjoying playing a bad girl.
I've always been on the good side. I've never played a villain, in my entire career. I'm the girl next door, or the girl who helps out, or the girl that makes an innocent escape. For once, I got to look all innocent and have that angelic quality, and then, all of a sudden, turn into something really dark. That was fun for me. That was the first villain that I've ever played.
Prout also had high praise for director David Slade.
He's a great guy because his way of working is so open. He just says, "Do what you do," and lets you play with it. If he has notes, he gives them to you, but he's a very open director. He keeps it light. He loves his job and he's very serious about it. He's a great director.
Prout also described the tight security surrounding the production.
The first day that Jackson came into work, he almost tripped on the stairs, coming out of his house, because there were so many photographers that he couldn't even see. The circus around all the trailers and everything was crazy. They had giant black dividers to keep paparazzi out. On the first day, they took down all the signage and blocked everything out. All the actors had to wear bathrobes to cover their wardrobe in between scenes. It was really intense.
Security apparently needed to be tighter, since a copy of an early Eclipse script has been leaked online. According to MTV, it was Rathbone's copy. How different it is from the final script remains to be seen. Posted 01.07.10 by reelz
Jackson Rathbone, the actor behind The Twilight Saga's Jasper, spoke to MTV about the upcoming New Moon movie and Taylor Lautner's performance as teen werewolf Jacob.
On the subject of his fan-friendly co-star, Rathbone had nothing but good things to say.
Taylor Lautner really stands out in this film, and I think people are going to be really blown away by his performance. You have these great moments that Jacob just completely is winning over Bella. And it's just beautiful to see it. It's all in their eyes.
He also couldn't help mentioning Lautner's new physique, which has been a huge hit with his hordes of female fans.
Nikki Reed keeps telling everybody, and I think it's true, yeah, Lautner's got his shirt off, and he looks good with his shirt off, but you look at those eyes. You really do.
Whatever Lautner's secret is, he's certainly proved to the Summit camp that they made the right decision keeping him as Jacob. For a 17-year-old, he's got commitment on his side — and a cast and crew that are all firmly on Team Taylor. Posted 10.22.09 by reelz
Filmofilia.com has posted 77 new New Moon images, all taken from the New Moon Official Illustrated Movie Companion, which hits shelves tomorrow.
Now's your chance to see Edward kissing his beloved Bella, the Volturi, Carlisle in the 1800s, many half-naked werewolves, and Robert Pattinson wearing a very nice coat.
We're glad to see that Pattinson's hair has been successfuly Edward-i-fied, and that Kristen Stewart still makes Bella look like a dull, run-of-the-mill high school student. Really, has the costume department forgotten that the character likes to wear a bit of color every now and then? We're wondering how Elizabeth Reaser's Esme has managed to transform herself so successfully, considering her appearance should, in vampire lore, stay exactly as it was in Twilight. And as for Jackson Rathbone's strange stance and facial expression, we're just going to gloss over that one and pretend it doesn't exist.
On the plus side, the Volturi look mean and menacing, and Taylor Lautner looks set to score a legion of female fans. New Moon is definitely well on its way to being the biggest movie of the year, and with no box-office competition to worry about in November, we think it'll dominate theater screens for much longer than Twilight did. Never one to forget his loyal fans, Jackson Rathbone (Jasper) announced today that his band, 100 Monkeys, will let fans decide which 20 cities they visit on their upcoming tour. All you have to do to particpate in the contest is email 100MonkeysTour@gmail.com and include your name, age, city, and state in the subject line.
On the contest, Rathbone said "We have the best fans in the world and we wanted to give them the power to guide our tour." Robert Pattinson is also a fan, saying, "Their music is amazing. I always come out to see them when I get the chance". If 100 Monkeys get the RPattz seal of approval, we're sure they'll have the fan's unwavering support too -- they're nothing but dedicated to all things Twilight. Posted 10.03.09 by reelz
It seems as if the intense fight choreography for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse is now starting to take its toll, especially on the fragile humans playing the vampires.
Just two weeks after reporting a story on star Ashley Greene getting "battered and bruised on set," MTV Movies wrote that Jackson Rathbone was taken to the hospital on Tuesday after suffering an unspecified injury while on set. A rep for Summit Entertainment spoke with the press, saying that the injury was not serious.
Actor Jackson Rathbone of The Twilight Saga movies was slightly injured yesterday [September 22] during a fight scene rehearsal. As a precaution, he was driven to the hospital and checked out by a doctor.... He's fine and is back at work on the set of Eclipse today.
Greene told MTV that despite the pain, it's all for the good of the movie.
It's going really smoothly. It's going really well.... We're all working really hard and learning how to kick butt. I don't know if you've seen recent pictures, but I have bruises all over my body. It's those wires. It looks like a hand mark on my arm, and it's definitely from wires.
For a look at that "hand mark," check out this image, courtesy of Radaronline.com. Posted 09.24.09 by reelz
The Twilight Saga: Eclipse began filming yesterday and, according to Lainey Gossip, one of the first scenes to be shot was Jasper's historical flashback. Things are looking good for Twilight fans — with both Jasper's and Rosalie's flashback scenes on the cards, screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg already seems to be staying pretty close to the book. Now, if she'd just explain what appears to be a Jacob-Bella kiss in the new New Moon trailer (check it out below), we'd all be happy.
Kristen Stewart has also been spotted getting tested for new wigs, after chopping her long locks off for rocker movie The Runaways. Let's just hope it looks realistic, and not like Jackson Rathbone's curly mess they call hair. Posted 08.18.09 by reelz
Naibe Reynoso is a correspondent for ReelzChannel TV's Movie News, and occasionally shares stories from the field.
It's been four days of all Twilight, all the time in Dallas at TwiCon, but I finally have my feet in mortal territory again — Los Angeles, where no vampires could ever live because of our year-round Sunny weather. As someone who had a press pass at the convention, my experience was truly out of this world. Not everyone was as lucky, as some attendees didn't get a chance to get autographs from their favorite cast members because the lines got pretty long and they were shut out.
The highlight for me at TwiCon was meeting some of the dedicated bloggers that have made it their passion to write about the series. The women from TwilightMoms.com where so delightful I wanted to have coffee with them even after our "official" interview was over. It was also nice to meet Yvette Caballero from RobPattz News, who told me about her adventures taking candid photographs of Robert Pattinson while he filmed New Moon in Vancouver.
Another treat was being at the sound check for Jackson Rathbone’s band "100 Monkeys." I got a chance to chat with him after he had his "coffee with the fans" event on Sunday morning, the last day of TwiCon. Rathbone, is the polar opposite of his Twilight character Jasper, whose cold demeanor could ward off anyone. He talked about his intense martial arts training for his next movie, The Last Airbender, directed by M. Night Shyamalan. Hmmm, maybe he should be included in our next Twilight "ab-off. In his charming Texan accent (he was raised in Midland, Texas), Rathbone spoke of how much of a pleasure it had been for him to meet the fans face to face.
So I hope to do this again next year. I must say, I am feeling some vampire withdrawal. In 2010 TwiCon is being held in, appropriately enough, Las Vegas, "the City that Never Sleeps", right around the time The Twilight Sage: Eclipse will hit theatres. Posted 08.03.09 by reelz
It's a good thing the ballroom at the Sheraton Dallas is rather large. Even so, space was tight for the more than 2,500 fans who lined up to see and hear Kellan Lutz, Peter Facinelli, Billy Burke, Christian Serratos, Jackson Rathbone, and newcomer to the franchise, Alex Meraz.
Deafening applause filled much of the 40-minute Q&A session, during which the cast took pre-written questions from the fans. A definite highlight was when Burke made paper planes with handwritten notes and threw them into the audience. But what really made fans go wild was Facinelli running down the ballroom aisle to hand deliver one of the planes to an incredibly lucky fan.
Things got a little saucy when Meraz received a request to "take off his shirt" from a fan who's clearly spent some time gazing at the wolf pack's publicity shot, which has several six-packs on display. When asked how he prepared for his role as Paul, Meraz answered "by working out and eating lots of steak."
Serratos talked about how she likes Vancouver, filming location of the just-shot The Twilight Saga: New Moon and the soon-to-start Eclipse. She also mentioned how much she enjoyed working with director Chris Weitz.
When asked what Jasper would name his band if he were a musician, Rathbone promptly responded, "The Ungrateful Dead or 100 Vampires."
Facinelli differentiated his doctor characters in Twilight and Nurse Jackie by saying Dr. Carlisle Cullen is as cool as ice and is the pillar of his family, while Dr. "Coop" is a catastrophe and in constant chaos. Posted 08.01.09 by reelz
Summit's official New Moon movie site has now gone live and includes a whole host of promotional stills and trailer images.
The new website is a Twilight Saga fan's dream, with interactive explorations, movie clips, and downloads being just a few of the many features. What do you think, Twilighters? Are the Quileute boys looking as good as you thought they would, or are they too pretty to play the howling-at-the-moon type? And just what exactly is going on with Jackson Rathbone's hair? It's worse than we originally thought. Posted 07.22.09 by reelz
