The Roommate was directed by Christian Christiansen from a script by Sonny Mallhi (The Strangers) and opens February 4, 2011. Posted 09.19.10 by Ryan
Principal photography on director Scott Stewart's (Legion) latest movie, Priest, has wrapped and Canadian ET was on hand for the final day of shooting to talk to stars Paul Bettany, Cam Gigandet and Stephen Moyer. The interviews are brief and not altogether enlightening, but the clip does include a behind-the-scenes look at a creepy subterranean set and some of the wire-work action in the movie.
Based on the Korean comic book by Min-Woo Hyung, Priest takes place in a "retro-futuristic" world in which warrior priests stand in opposition to vampires and their sub-human slaves. The movie was originally slated to open in October, but the release was pushed back to January 2011 to accommodate 3-D conversion. Karl Urban and Maggie Q also star. Posted 03.16.10 by BrentJS
Only a week after director Scott Stewart (Legion) told MTV how excited he was that his latest movie, Priest, would be debuting in the summer, it was announced that the release date has been pushed back to the dead of winter. Initially slated for an October 2010 release, the date was switched to August 27, 2010, to take advantage of a summer weekend vacated byResident Evil: Afterlife, which moved to January 14, 2011 (and subsequently moved again to September 10, 2010), the date now given as the new release date for Priest.
Priest's release being pushed back five months may seem like a sign of trouble at first glance, but Clint Culpepper, President of Screen Gems, announced in a press release that the reason for the delay is to allow time for a 3-D conversion.
We're thrilled with the way Priest has come together, and we saw some spectacular sequences in the film that we all believed would be even more amazing in 3-D. Scott, as well as the producers, couldn't be more excited to make the film available for audiences in both 2D and 3D.
Priest is based on the manhwa (Korean for "comic book" or "print cartoon") by Min-Woo Hyung and takes place in a "retro-futuristic" world populated by Jedi-like Priests in opposition to the forces of darkness personified by vampires and their sub-human slaves. Paul Bettany, Cam Gigandet, Karl Urban, and Maggie Q star. Posted 02.06.10 by BrentJS
Paul Bettany just got finished playing a warrior angel for Legion. Now he's getting ready to play a priest. Not just any priest, though. He's a post-apocalyptic warrior priest fighting off vampires in a desert setting that looks a lot like the Old West.
Does Priest sound a bit like The Book of Eli meets Twilight by way of Legion? It's definitely not Legion, says Scott Stewart (the director of both Priest and Legion) in one recent interview.
It's a very different story for me. It's a hugely different character in that Michael is all about forgiveness and faith, and Priest is about revenge. He just wants blood. We went into it with the same spirit, but with three times the budget, which changes everything.... It's got lots of action and stuff, but it is literally a science fiction Western. It takes place in an alternate universe. There's retro-futuristic things, motorcycles instead of horses, and big industrial cities. The whole mythology is entirely the history of the vampire/human wars and all this other kind of stuff. The Priest characters are like these Jedi Knights...
And, as Stewart made clear in another interview, it's not going to be much like Twilight or True Blood, either.
I didn't feel like I had a lot to add to the vampire lore when I first read Priest. I really liked the script, but one thing I didn't want to do was a sexy vampire movie. True Blood is doing that. And my vampires aren't going to sparkle in the daylight.
What it is about, he goes on to say, is the aftermath of a centuries-long war between humans and vampires.
My focus is how now the vampire is vanquished, and society has moved on from you. You're not the hero anymore, and people look at you like a freak. They won't talk to you. And so we look at what happens after that if you're called into service again. You end up questioning why you made those sacrifices to begin with.
The movie will have at least one point of contact with Twilight, though. Cam Gigandet is playing a part-vampire wasteland sheriff. Posted 01.26.10 by reelz
JFXonline has a slew of new pics showing two of the lead actors on the set of the upcoming supernatural comic book movie Priest — with a special emphasis on ex-Twilight villain Cam Gigandet.
The movie's full storyline hasn't been revealed, but we can surmise from the comics that Paul Bettany will play the warrior Priest, while Cam Gigandet will play a small town sheriff whose girlfriend has been abducted by a gang of vampires led by "Black Hat," the villain played by Karl Urban. In an interview with MTV, Pandorum producer Paul W.S. Anderson addressed comparisons between his upcoming deep-space horror flick and the granddaddy of them all, Alien.
It's a very scary movie set in space and there are creatures in it. It introduces an unexpected terror to the audience. Any buzz floating around that this is a bit like Alien, I take as a huge compliment.
It is not just "some Alien knock-off" though, he insists. For one thing, the monsters, at least from what we have seen of them in the trailers, are a bit more Nosferatu. Then there's that whole weird skin-peeling thing. And as far as plot is concerned, an element of mystery is added with the missing crew.
On top of all that though, he reveals that there is a nude scene with Twilight star Cam Gigandet:
For fans of Twilight, there's a scene where Cam's completely naked. He's covered in blood, of course. There's more Cam nudity in this than there is in Twilight! There's this great scene where Dennis finds Cam and he's naked and covered in blood and Dennis covers him up and he says to Cam, "Is that your blood, Corporal?" and Cam says, "Some of it," and of course the question is, "Whose blood is it?"
Given what happens to his character James at the end of Twilight, it seems rather unlikely that Twilight fans will be put off from seeing Cam that way, no matter whose blood it is or how much there is of it. Posted 08.12.09 by reelz
Variety reports that Adrien Brody, Forest Whitaker, Elijah Wood, and Twilight actor Cam Gigandet have all agreed to star in an English-language remake of Das Experiment, the 2001 German thriller directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel and starring Moritz Bleibtreu (Run Lola Run).
Like the original, this new movie – simply titled The Experiment – will tell the story of a group of individuals selected to participate in a psychological study. They are put into a mock prison in which half of the participants are prisoners, the other half guards. As the experiment progresses, the participants fall deeper into their roles, resulting in abusive treatment.
Prison Break writer Paul Scheuring is directing the movie from his own script, which was based on the novel by Mario Giordano (who also wrote the screenplay of the 2001 movie). Inferno Entertainment and Magnet Media Group are financing the movie, which does not yet have a specific release date.
The story idea for The Experiment is based in part on the 1971 Stanford Prison Project, which involved undergraduates at Stanford participating in a similar study in the basement of the university's psychology building. The study was planned for two weeks but had to be abandoned after six days. You can read more about it on the study's official site. Posted 06.19.09 by reelz
Twilight star Cam Gigandet is set to return to the world of the undead in new movie Priest. Based on a TokyoPop comic series, Priest sees a warrior priest go up against savage vampires in a bid to save his kidnapped niece.
Gigandet will be playing a part-vampire boyfriend of the niece, and will be joined by the already announced Paul Bettany (The Da Vinci Code). Director Scott Stewart (Legion) is on board, along with scriptwriter Cory Goodman, and the movie is due for release in September 2010.
It looks like Gigandet is a hot pick for vampire roles, after playing villain James alongside Robert Pattinson in Twilight. If nothing else, he's certainly popular with the ladies. Oh, and the MTV Movie Awards. Posted 06.08.09 by reelz
