The cast of Brazilian director José Padilha's (Elite Squad) RoboCop has increased by one. According to Deadline, Academy Award-nominated actor Jackie Earle Hayley (Little Children) has signed on to star in the remake of director Paul Verhoeven's 1987 movie as Maddox, the man "who dispenses the military training" to cop-turned-cyborg cop Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman), post-RoboCop transformation.
Haley joins an impressive cast that so far includes Abbie Cornish (Sucker Punch) as Ellen Murphy, House actor Hugh Laurie as the CEO of OmniCorp — the company responsible for manufacturing RoboCop — Academy Award-nominee Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction) as "charismatic media mogul" Pat Novak, and Academy Award-winner Gary Oldman (Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy) as Norton, the scientist who creates Robocop. The Sorcerer's Apprentice star Jay Baruchel is said to be "circling" a lead role in the movie, as well. more about the RoboCop remake >> Posted 07.23.12 by BrentJS
Recent "spy" photos from the set of the upcoming adaptation of Dark Shadows offered the first look at Johnny Depp as the 200-year-old vampire Barnabas Collins, and from the looks of it, Depp was wearing so much clownish goth make-up that it put his Mad Hatter role from Alice in Wonderland to shame.
Luckily, director Tim Burton has delivered a first look photo of the cast, where Depp, and the rest of the cast, look more like they just stepped out of the ABC gothic soap opera on which the movie is based. "I remember seeing a group photograph of the cast of the original series," Burton told EW. "For me it captured the weird Dark Shadows vibe in a single image. I had a brief window of opportunity to have our cast present at the same time, the day before principle photography began. We decided to stage a similar picture instead of rehearsing, to see if we captured the Dark Shadows feeling." more about the strange Collins family >> Posted 09.23.11 by Ryan
Some moviemakers long to capitalize on the political happenings of the day — director Michael Moore's career thrives on it, while George Clooney's drama The Ides of March (set along the campaign trail of a presidential nomination race) opens, perhaps coincidentally, just days before a scheduled debate between the Republican primary candidates.
Not everyone is looking to gain notoriety from the world of politics. Director Steven Spielberg is hoping to avoid any political ramifications with his upcoming historical drama Lincoln. "The movie will be purposely coming out AFTER next year's election," Spielberg told The Orlando Sentinel. "I didn't want it to become political fodder." more on Lincoln and Jackie Earle Haley's Role >> Posted 09.21.11 by Ryan
Last November, it was reported that Johnny Depp would start shooting Dark Shadows with director Tim Burton last month. Close enough.
Warner Bros. announced shooting has begun in England on the project, which is an adaptation of a Gothic soap opera created by Dan Curtis that ran on ABC from 1966 to 1971 and centered around vampire Barnabas Collins (Depp), a role originally played by Jonathan Frid. Seth Grahame-Smith, the author of the Pride and Prejudice and Zombies mash-up novel, wrote the script for the movie based on a story by John August and Grahame-Smith.
The Warner Bros. announcement also included a movie synopsis, giving those who remember the show the first chance to see how the adaptation will compare. read the detailed synopsis >> Posted 05.19.11 by Ryan
It appears that Tim Burton's much-talked-about movie adaptation of the '60s Gothic soap opera Dark Shadows is finally coming together. Additionally, Jackie Earle Hayley and Bella Heathcoate are said to be "in talks" for key roles, as well. what are the roles being cast? >> Posted 02.04.11 by BrentJS
Apparently Clash of the Titans isn't the only 80s remake in need of tinkering. According to a casting notice that went out Tuesday night, the Jackie Earl Hayley-led A Nightmare on Elm Street is searching for extras to play "Funeral Goers."
Project Name:NIGHTMARE on ELM STREET (Reshoots)
Project Type:Feature Film
FUNERAL GOERSBackgroundMale or Female / 22 to 55 / CaucasianUpscale conservative men & women needed. *please state in your post if you have black clothing and a black trench. I also need a blonde woman with a grey suit (medium gray color).
Given the amount of bloodshed promised, it's unclear whose funeral is being filmed. It could be Freddy Krueger or any of his multiple victims resting in the casket.
While reshoots are never a welcome sign, Elm Street doesn't release until April 30, 2010 making them sound less worrisome than those needed for Clash of the Titans and its March 26 release date. Posted 12.22.09 by reelz
