I was looking for a very short thing to do before Brad [Pitt] started filming [Moneyball], and I said I needed something that shoots not too long, in a nice location for my family. Somebody said there’s a script that’s been around, and it shoots in Venice and Paris. And I said, "Is it a character I haven’t played before?" And they said, "Yes, it’s a lady."
The first trailer for director Florian von Donnersmarck's new movie The Tourist is now online. von Donnersmarck (The Lives of Others) directs Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp in the remake of the 2005 French thriller Anthony Zimmer.
In the movie, Depp plays an American tourist drawn into a web of danger when he is used by an Interpol agent (Jolie) to draw out an elusive international criminal that was once her lover.
The Tourist will hit theaters on December 10th, 2010 and also stars Paul Bettany, Rufus Sewell, and Timothy Dalton. Posted 09.15.10 by reelz
Things finally seem to be coming together for GK Films and Spyglass Entertainment's long-in-development film, The Tourist. According to EW, acclaimed German director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck (The Lives of Others) has signed on to direct Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp in the thriller.
The Tourist tells the story of an Interpol agent (Jolie) who uses an American tourist (Depp) to flush out a criminal she once knew intimately. A remake of the 2005 French film Anthony Zimmer, The Tourist wasoriginally announced with Charlize Theron and Tom Cruise in the lead roles and Bharat Nalluri (Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day) directing.
Cruise eventually dropped out of the production and Sam Worthington stepped in to take his place. When Nalluri also dropped out, Von Donnersmarck was brought in to direct, and he brought in Jolie to replace Theron. Then, Depp was brought in to replace Worthington, but von Donnersmarck dropped out.
Before the announcement that von Donnersmarck would return, Alfonso Cuarón (Children of Men) was rumored to be in talks to direct. Because of all of the changes, it is unclear at this time if the production will still begin in February, as originally announced. Posted 01.13.10 by BrentJS
Can't get enough Johnny Depp? If yesterday's news that he is still attached to play Tonto in a live-action Lone Ranger movie wasn't enough for you, now Variety is reporting that Depp may be saddling up with Angelina Jolie in The Tourist.
Graham King's GK Films is producing The Tourist, which has gone through a number of major changes since it was first announced. Originally, Spyglass planned on developing the movie with Bharat Nalluri directing Charlize Theron and Tom Cruise. Cruise bowed out, to be replaced by Sam Worthington, who subsequently left the movie, as well. When Nalluri also left the project, Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck came aboard to direct, bringing Jolie in to replace Theron. Since then, von Donnersmarck has also departed. Will shooting still begin in February 2010, as planned? Your guess is as good as ours. Posted 11.05.09 by BrentJS
