Are Warner brothers and DC planning a Hawkman movie after Green Lantern? According to Pajiba, the winged hero is next in DC's line of Justice League heroes to get his own movie. Apparently, Warners is describing the project as "part Indiana Jones, part Da Vinci Code, and part Ghost," which is a confusing trio to use in describing another movie. Does this mean Hawkman will be deciphering ancient codes to find an archeological treasure while speaking though Whoopi Goldberg?
DC and Warners have long wanted to develop a Justice League movie, though they may be trying to launch individual movies first, like Marvel has done with their Avengers characters. Producer Dan Lin, who was at one point working on the Justice League movie, told Collider that a plan from DC will be announced early next year.
[Justice League's] on-hold right now as DC sorts out its strategy but as you've talked to Allen Horn and Jeff Robinoff it seems like they're building to Justice League instead of going with the team movie first and doing individual movies after that... they're unveiling their DC strategy in January so you'll hear more about that and they'll speak about that in the new year.
Lin says that the only other adaptation he is working on is a Suicide Squad adaptation, which he described as "Dirty Dozen set in the world of supervillains," while he was unsure if a Wonder Woman movie will get made. Lin wasn't asked about a possible Hawkman movie, though it was his opinion that DC and Warners wanted to follow Marvel's example.
I don't know for sure, but as a fan it feels like that's what they're doing as I watch their movies being laid out. Posted 12.24.09 by Ryan
At the US premiere of Terminator Salvation, About.com interviewed producer Dan Lin, who talked about, among other things, a couple of his upcoming projects. Lin is producing Sherlock Holmes -- directed by Guy Ritchie and starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law -- and a prequel to Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, which is not yet in production and has no one attached to it.
Here's what he had to say about Sherlock Holmes:
The tone is period Butch and Sundance. It's almost like a buddy cop movie set in the period world. Like Butch and Sundance, it's action-oriented, but there's definitely comedy to it. It's really about these two guys, Sherlock and Watson, who basically they're best friends and there's an incident that sets them apart and they have to come back together at the end of the movie.
Sherlock Holmes reimagined as Butch Cassidy? Interesting notion.
Lin then gave some details about the Lara Croft project, which will be a prequel to the other two movies.
Really excited -- it's a great origin story that we're going to tell. A very character-oriented, I would say more realistic than the past Lara Croft movies ... I would say it's like Terminator -- character-driven action. I think for me the Lara Croft games and movies have gone a little too action-oriented. I wanted to have action, but with character.
The movie will also require a re-casting, since it involves a Lara Croft significantly younger than Angelina Jolie.
