Now that the Twilight franchise is over, it seems that The Hunger Games is the heir apparent to the Young Adult audience that Twilight targeted, and it's not as if there hasn't been plenty of competition. Supernatural love story Beautiful Creatures quietly crept into theaters in February, but couldn't even crack the Top 5 at the box office its opening weekend, putting a sequel highly in doubt. The Host, again adapted from a novel by Twilight author Stephenie Meyer, opened in theaters last weekend, yet it too couldn't make the top 5 movies, losing mostly to movies that are already a few weeks in release.
The next challenger for the 'tween audience is August's The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, which just debuted a new poster and trailer. It certainly has the usual elements for success: a hit novel series (written by Cassandra Clare), a love triangle, and a seemingly ordinary, teenage girl (Lily Collins) dropped into extraordinary circumstances.
