A couple weeks ago, we got a sneak peek at some of the incredible artwork that went into making the otherworldly landscapes of the alien planet Oa, home of the Green Lantern Corps of intergalactic guardians, leap from the pages of DC Comics' Green Lantern comic book series to the big screen in director Martin Campbell's Green Lantern adaptation. Now, we have an opportunity to sneak a peek at the designs for some of the bizarre characters that populate the movie.
Character and concept artist Jerad S. Marantz, whose designs inspired several of the mutant characters in director Matthew Vaughn's X-Men: First Class, recently opened up his sketchbook, so to speak, to share some of the designs he created to bring several Green Lantern characters to life. Included in the nearly two dozen images released are designs for the head-swelling transformation of Hector Hammond (played in the movie by Peter Sarsgaard, though Marantz appeared to have Philip Seymor Hoffman in mind when he did the designs) after he encounters a piece of the cosmic fear-entity, Parallax, the Guardians of the Universe, the practically immortal creators of the Green Lantern Corps, and the robot Green Lantern Stel, one of the 3,600-strong (7,200 in the comic books) members of the Corps. listen to the creepy viral audio clip featuring Parallax >> Posted 06.08.11 by BrentJS
As promised, Warner Bros. released today an awesome new theatrical trailer for its latest DC Comics adaptation, director Martin Campbell's Green Lantern. While previous TV spots have focused on Oa, the home of the Green Lantern Corps, or traded space scenes for terrestrial ones, this new trailer has it all — more of Hal Jordan's (Ryan Reynolds) ring-slinging training, more scenes with alien Lanterns Tomar-Re (voiced by Academy Award-winner Geoffrey Rush), Sinestro (Mark Strong), and Kilowog (voiced by Michael Clarke Duncan for the first time), and more Earth-based scenes with Hal's boss and love interest, Carol Ferris (Blake Lively), and his big-brained human nemesis, Hector Hammond (Peter Sarsgaard). Even Angela Bassett and Academy Award–winner Tim Robbins get some screen time in the new trailer as Dr. Amanda Waller and Senator Hammond, respectively. watch the awesome new trailer >> Posted 05.04.11 by BrentJS
Director Joseph "McG" McGinty Nichol (Terminator Salvation) has been in production on the action/romance/spy comedy This Means War since September, but he's still adding cast members. The movie concerns two CIA agents and best friends (Chris Pine and Tom Hardy) who fall in love with the same woman (Reese Witherspoon).
THR reports that Abigail Spencer (AMC's Mad Men, the upcoming Cowboys and Aliens) has joined the cast as Hardy's ex-wife. Spencer joins a cast that also includes David Koechner (Anchorman), Chelsea Handler (Chelsea Lately), Til Schweiger (Inglourious Basterds), and Angela Bassett, who recently joined as the CIA boss who has dedicated her life to the agency and has no life outside the spy business.
Tim Dowling will end up with credit for the script, which has undergone several rewrites in its 10 year production history. This means War is expected to open sometime in the summer of 2011 and, from the recent spy pics released by HeyUGuys, it looks like Witherspoon, Pine, and Hardy are having a good time on the set. After recently adding New Zealand actors Temuera Morrison and Taika Waititi, Variety reports that Angela Bassett is the latest to join the cast of Green Lantern. Bassett will play Dr. Amanda Waller, a character from DC comics whose inclusion could mean that Bassett may turn up in other DC adaptations, namely the adaptation of Suicide Squad, where her character is a member. Producer Dan Lin has described Suicide Squad as "Dirty Dozen set in the world of supervillains".
MTV reports that two more have joined the cast: Gattlin Griffith (Changeling) as "Robert", and Brazilian model Marcela Duartee, who used her Twitter account to announce her casting.
I've just received script of my frst participation on a Movie.by Warner Bros.So Happy!Tomorrow flying to New Orl. to film w/ Ryan Reynolds.
Duartee blogged about her experience, which is a real linguistic workout for anyone without a working knowledge of Portuguese, but it seems that Duartee is playing the role of "Beautiful Girl". Duartee also posted a photo of herself with Reynolds from the set just in case no one believed her.
In related Green Lantern news, Blake Lively told Vogue that she may dye her hair to play the typically dark-haired Carol Ferris (who eventually becomes the villain Star Sapphire in the comics).
That's all under discussion. Anything is possible, just not the pink bodysuit, please!
Star Sapphire's costume is a rather aged color of pink, but as Reynolds has pointed out: The movie's not about the costume. Posted 03.26.10 by Ryan
Everybody who knew the infamous rap legend Biggie Smalls has some mixed feelings about his legacy as the story of his life gets ready to hit the big screen. None more so that his own mother Voletta Wallace, who was on set as a producer for Notorious and is played in the film by Angela Bassett. Although she thinks that it's a very good movie, the filming got her musing about how the "sweet, considerate, generous young man" she raised turned into a drug-dealing, gun-toting monster. She says:
"Do I love the monster? No. But I love my son. Love you don't change. My love is still here for my son. But his behavior? Thank God he's not here because I would slap the daylights out of him."
Also on set was her grandson, who is playing his father as a young man, and he has no doubt had a watchful eye out for his grandmother as well. Posted 12.16.08 by reelz
