"Who are you? Who are you... really?"
For your Saturday night MovieMovie viewing pleasure, we bring you two acclaimed Westerns featuring two of the most celebrated and beloved actor-filmmakers in movie history: Jeremiah Johnson (1972) starring Robert Redford, and Pale Rider (1985) starring Clint Eastwood.
Redford stars as the title character in Jeremiah Johnson, his second of seven collaborations with Academy Award-winning director Sydney Pollack. After serving in the Mexican War (1846–48), Johnson chooses a life of solitude and heads out west to become a mountain man. He is tasked at every turn by the unforgiving land and its denizens, including bears and the Blackfoot warriros antagonistic toward settlers. Johnson scratches out a living and even manages to find love, but tragedy strikes when the U.S. Cavalry forces him to help them movie through native territory.
Pale Rider not only stars Eastwood, but he produced and directed this highest-grossing Western of the '80s. When the fictional California mining town of Lahood is attacked by thugs in the employ of a rival miner, a little girl prays for help and her prayers appear to be answered in the form of a mysterious stranger in a preacher's collar. Initially skeptical of the "Preacher," the townsfolk eventually accept him and he helps them pan for gold and keep the thugs away. But, the lure of riches is too great for the rival miner and he offers the townsfolk an ultimatum: sell him their claims or lose everything.jeremiah johnson & pale rider

"Somebody left the door open and the wrong dogs came home."
After making a name for himself as the star of Sergio Leone's Dollars trilogy of Spaghetti Westerns, Clint Eastwood returned to America with enough money, clout and know-how to make his own Leone-inspired Westerns. His first attempt, High Plains Drifter, was a smash it at the box office, as well as a critical favorite, and remains one of the all-time great American Westerns.
The movie opens with the arrival of a dusty stranger (Eastwood) to the cloistered desert mining town of Lago. Immediately beset upon by three gun-wielding brigands, the Stranger shoots them down and then has his way with a local woman of ill repute. Instead of being arrested, the Stranger is asked to protect the townsfolk — and the mining company's gold — from three notorious gunfighters who were recently released from jail and are sure to riding to Lago looking for retribution against those that double-crossed them. The Stranger accepts the offer, but his services might prove to be more costly than the people of Lago are willing to pay. Tune in tonight for double-barreled frontier justice with a touch of the supernatural. Only on ReelzChannel.high plains drifter

"It's not the years...it's the mileage."
Though the novelty of The Expendables' all-star cast of '80s and '90s action heroes wore off somewhat by the time The Expendables 2 hit theaters, the resurgence of aging tough-guy actors continues with the success of Liam Neeson's Taken 2, which beat down the competition this past weekend. And there's more to come. Ah-nuld's getting back in the game with The Last Stand and Bruce Willis is dusting off John McClane for a fifth go-round in A Good Day to Die Hard. But, not all aging actors can continue to pull off the kind of tough-guy roles they played in their youth. Tell us which over-50 actors still have what it takes to beat up the bad guys and come back for more.

"The hanging was the best show in town."
Though considered classics today, Clint Eastwood's early spaghetti westerns were initially panned by critics who complained about the movies' "dopey" plots and Eastwood's "wooden" acting. It wasn't until Eastwood returned to America to star in Hang 'em High that he started to receive any recognition for his portrayal of dusty anti-heroes. Co-produced with United Artists (UA) by Eastwood's newly-established production company, Malpaso Productions , and shot on location in New Mexico, Hang 'em High received overwhelmingly favorable reviews and had the largest opening at the box office of any previous UA movie.
Hang 'em High finds Eastwood playing Jed Cooper, an innocent man who survives being lynched by a posse convinced that he is a murderer and cattle rustler. After being found innocent by regional judge Adam Fenton (Pat Hingle) — loosely based on real-life "Hanging Judge" Isaac Parker — Cooper accepts Fenton's offer to become a marshal. Cooper invariably crosses paths with the men who lynched him, most of them respected members of the community, and nothing will stop him from seeing that justice is served.hang 'em high

"When I get around to liking someone, they ain't around long."
It's hard to think of anyone that's contributed more to the Western genre than Clint Eastwood, who started his career on the TV show Rawhide before transitioning to movies with director Sergio Leone's Dollars trilogy. Still one of Eastwood's favorite contributions to the genre is 1976's the Outlaw Josey Wales, only the second Western that Eastwood had directed, following 1973's High Plains Drifter.
Based on author Forrest Carter's 1973 novel The Rebel Outlaw: Josey Wales, the movie starred Eastwood in the title role as the tobacco-chewing Wales, a Missouri farmer who seeks revenge after losing his wife and son to a band of murderous pro-Union men from Kansas. The Outlaw Josey Wales continued Eastwood's Western tradition of playing the ultimate anti-hero, an archetype he would put his final stamp on in 1992's The Unforgiven. Chief Dan George (Little Big Man), Sondra Locke (Bronco Billy), and John Vernon (Animal House) co-star. the outlaw josey wales

Firefox: High-flying patriotic action!
Strap yourself in and get ready for the ride of your life. Tonight's movie is the 1982 Cold War classic produced, directed by and starring Clint Eastwood, Firefox.
When the Soviet Union makes a leap ahead in the arms race by developing a thought-controlled fighter jet that is invisible to radar and capable of delivering a nuclear payload, the U.S. and the U.K. respond by hatching a plot to steal the prototype aircraft, code named "Firefox." Former U.S. Air Force Major Mitchell Gant (Eastwood) is chosen for the job because of his experience as a pilot during the Vietnam War and because of his command of the Russian language. But, even if Gant manages to outwit the KGB and steal the prototype aircraft, he will still have to contend with the prototype's twin and its equally-skilled Soviet pilot (Kai Wulff). Another day, another Lindsay Lohan headline. Yesterday, Lohan was accused of not paying her $46K tab at the Chateau Marmont hotel. Today, the actress is being accused of trashing the trailer Elizabeth Taylor used when she was filming Cleopatra. The owner had loaned the trailer to producers of the Taylor biopic Liz & Dick, but when it was returned it was covered in cigarette burns and dirty dishes, and several antiques were missing. Of course, Lohan said she's not to blame. The owner estimates the cost of the damages to the trailer to be $100,000.

Few actors make it to the legendary epicness of Clint Eastwood — in fact, few humans do. Acclaimed actor, director, producer, even mayor of Carmel-By-The-Sea, CA, Eastwood has defined rugged macho and no-nonsense bravado since he captured our imagination as the lonely drifter, "The Man with No Name."
The Countdown: Clint Eastwood is celebrating this Oscar-winning actor/director.
