Which Actor Should Play the Space Pirate?
Unless you've been sentenced to hard labor in the Spice Mines of Kessel or frozen in carbonite for the past few weeks, then you know that George Lucas has sold Lucasfilm Ltd. and that Disney is pushing for a new Star Wars movie to be released in 2015. The details of Star Wars: Episode VII are a closely guarded secret at this point, but we do know that Michael Arndt (Little Miss Sunshine) has been hired to write the screenplay and that Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher have all been approached about it, but whether the trio will be playing older versions of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and Princess Leia Organa or simply signing away their likeness rights for digital proxies is anyone's guess.
As much as we would love to see the original actors come back in some way, shape or form, we would much rather see Disney reboot the characters the way Paramount did with Star Trek. After all, if James Bond, Batman and Sherlock Holmes can survive multiple interations, why not Han, Luke and Leia? We already asked you who you think has the right stuff to play the last Jedi; now, help us choose the space pirate, the scoundrel, the scruffy looking nerf herder.

Summit Entertainment has been struggling to get a new Highlander movie off the ground since Iron Man screenwriters Art Marcum and Matt Holloway were hired to pen the script back in 2008. Apparently, that script wasn't quite up to snuff because Summit brought in Twilight Saga screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg to rewrite it last year. Then, when Fast Five proved to be a monster hit and created new opportunities for Justin Lin, he decided he didn't want to be a "director for hire" and dropped out.
Rumors began circulating online back in September of last year that 28 Weeks Later director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo would be taking over for Lin, but there was never any official confirmation of this. Evidently, Fresnadillo did sign on. In a recent interview for his latest movie, Intruders, Fresnadillo said he intends to "refresh the [Highlander] mythology." what did fresnadillo say? >> Posted 03.29.12 by BrentJS
Since coming to worldwide attention in last year's Alice in Wonderland, Australian actress Mia Wasikowska has been up for a variety of roles, including the lead role in American remake of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and The Amazing Spider-Man, but didn't end up landing the roles.
According to Twitch, the latest part that Wasikowska could land in the female lead role in director Spike Lee's Oldboy remake, which is being offered to the actress. The role was originally offered to Rooney Mara, ironically, the actress that eventually won the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo role over Wasikowska, but turned down the role in October. Pretty soon, Hollywood is going to run out of moments to use for movies from late President Richard Nixon's life, but not yet.
Only three years removed from 2008's Academy Award–nominated Frost/Nixon, which focused on a series of post-Watergate television interviews Nixon gave to British TV personality David Frost, the latest project showcases Nixon's infamous White House meeting with Elvis Presley. Appropriately titled Elvis & Nixon, the movie was co-written by actor Cary Elwes, who will also make his directorial debut. Eric Bana (Funny People, Hulk) is set to play Elvis, while Danny Huston (Clash of the Titans, X-Men Origins: Wolverine) will play Nixon.
ComingSoon reports that international rights have already been sold for Elvis & Nixon, which should start lensing soon in Shreveport, Louisiana, and Los Angeles. owen gets Recall; Jake Abel falls for an alien spirit >> Posted 11.10.11 by Ryan
The day has finally arrived for the thriller Killer Elite to open in theaters, but just in case you're not convinced you want to watch Jason Statham rescue Robert De Niro from assassins led by Clive Owen, a new red band trailer has just been released to help convince you to see it.
Killer Elite has been on a promotional kick this past month, releasing a preview clip of De Niro in bad ass mode earlier this week and two other preview clips earlier this month. Still, none of them have answered the question burning in the minds of anyone that has seen the movie's many trailers and TV spots: What's up with Owen's mustache?
The actor was finally asked to defend his facial hair by MTV in a recent interview. Owen explains himself >> Posted 09.23.11 by Ryan
The upcoming thriller Killer Elite won't open for another few weeks, but at the rate that Open Road Films is releasing preview clips, we may get to watch the entire movie by the time it reaches theaters.
Killer Elite stars Jason Statham as an ex-special ops agent who comes out of retirement to rescue his mentor (Robert De Niro) from a group of assassins led by Clive Owen. With the two clips already released in early August, another action-packed clip debuted earlier this week which showed Statham on the run from Owen and his bullets and, possibly, his disturbing mustache. The latest preview clip again sees Owen chase after Statham, though this time Statham is behind the wheel, and we all know that The Transporter knows how to drive. watch the clip >> Posted 09.02.11 by Ryan
Now that summer is over, movie audiences can look forward to the fall movie line-up, which includes two movies starring Jason Statham: September's action thriller Killer Elite and October's action thriller Safe. While Safe has Statham back in Transporter mode, rescuing a kidnapped girl, Killer Elite stars him as an ex-special ops agent who comes out of retirement to rescue his mentor (Robert De Niro) from a group of assassins led by Clive Owen and his ill-advised mustache.
With less than a month before the movie opens, Open Road Films has released another action-packed preview clip, following the two clips released earlier this month. The latest clip sees Statham on the run, while Owen chases after him. watch the clip >> Posted 08.29.11 by Ryan
ComingSoon has the first look photos from director Gary McKendry's upcoming action thriller The Killer Elite that stars Jason Statham, Robert De Niro and Clive Owen. Owen appears fighting with Statham in an exclusive Collider image.
While The Killer Elite seems to borrow its title from the 1975 movie from director Sam Peckinpah, the movie's plot comes from author Sir Ranulph Fiennes' 1991 novel The Feather Men. In the movie, Statham plays an ex-special ops agent who comes out of retirement to save his mentor (De Niro) and must take down three assassins led by Owen. Fiennes claims that his book was based on true events, as it followed the assassinations of four former Special Air Service (SAS) by the hands of a hit squad called "The Clinic." A group of vigilantes known as "The Feather Men" go after the assassins. Peckinpah's Killer Elite was also about a private mercenary group, but was not based on the Robert Rostand novel Monkey in the Middle.
Opening September 23, The Killer Elite co-stars Dominic Purcell (Prison Break), Yvonne Strahovski (The Canyon), Aden Young (The Tree) and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra). Posted 06.20.11 by Ryan
Spanish director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo made his directorial debut with the 2001 thriller Intacto and then moved to his English-language debut in the 2007 horror sequel 28 Weeks Later. Since then, Fresnadillo was attached to the video game adaptation Bioshock back in 2009, but after years of development, the "R-rated, underwater, horror" movie still isn't near production. Fresnadillo also was recently hired to direct the Crow remake, but that has fallen into legal issues that may keep it from being made anytime soon.
That said, this year does see the release of Fresandillo's next movie, the horror movie Intruders, starring Clive Owen as a father of an 11-year-old girl (Ella Purnell, Never Let Me Go) who is terrorized by her childhood demons when they reappear (sounds like those may be literal demons rather than figurative). Empire released the trailer for the movie, which doesn't try to give away much plot but shows a possible first encounter between father and daughter.

Director Gary McKendry's The Killer Elite has added the star power of Clive Owen to the Jason Statham-starring action thriller. A loose adaptation of Sir Ranulph Fiennes' novel The Feather Men, the movie centers around an ex-Navy Seal (Statham) who comes out of retirement to save his friend (Owen), a former British Special Forces (SAS) officer who is being targeted by assassins.
The Feather Men novel, a #1 bestseller in England, was controversial for Fiennes' assertion that it was based on actual events. In the novel, "the Feather Men," named as such for their "light touch," are a group of highly-skilled and organized vigilantes who dole out justice whenever the police and justice system are unable to. The Feather Men spring into action when a former sheikh of Oman hires "the Clinic," a group of assassins, to terminate the SAS members that he feels are responsible for the death of his four sons.
The Killer Elite was originally scheduled to go into production last fall, but was put on hold. There is no official start date for the movie, but it is expected to shoot this year in Australia. Posted 03.15.10 by BrentJS
