It's got love and the supernatural, but it's not Twilight. Wait, it's not?
In the race to become the next Twilight, there are plenty of potential franchises in the running, but, according to writer-director Richard LaGravenese (The Freedom Writers), the upcoming Beautiful Creatures isn't one of them. "It's not Twilight," LaGravenese told Movieline at the New York Comic-Con (NYCC) last month. "I'm sorry, it's just not. I mean, yes, it's a love story and one of them has powers, but that's it."
Perhaps the confusion comes from the fact that, like Twilight, Beautiful Creatures is based on a young-adult novel (written by by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl) and the first trailer, released in September, seemed to focus on the "supernatural love story" aspect of the movie, which certainly recalled Twilight. The latest trailer focuses less on the "love story," and more on the "supernatural," with teenager Lena Duchannes (Alice Englert) struggling with the prospect of her sixteenth birthday, where a ritual called the Claiming will decide whether her mystical abilities will forever be light or dark.claiming all the latest trailers

Watch out, Katniss. It looks like Merida and her archery skills could give you a run for your money.
Every summer brings a new release from Pixar, and only two days after the solstice we get 2012's tale of a young, defiant princess. Though rebellious princesses are standard fare in animated features, Merida, the heroine of Disney/Pixar's Brave, looks like she has more in common with Star Wars' blaster-wielding Princess Leia than she does the voiceless mermaid Ariel.
The newest full-length trailer for the highly anticipated summer flick takes a closer look at Merida, giving a glimpse of her personality, her lot in life, and her family. While previous trailers have focused on the movie's sense of action and adventure or its supernatural plot points, this one shows a Pixar movie with real heart. The bit featuring Billy Connolly's King Fergus proves it will have some belly laughs, as well. watch the trailer >> Posted 04.24.12 by Mandy
Princess Merida (Kelly Macdonald) challenges her family's and country's traditions in the upcoming Brave, proving herself to be anything but a fair maiden in need of protection. The latest clip offers another look at just how determined (and rebellious) Merida is in her quest to make her own path in life — and just how good her archery skills are compared with her prospective husbands'. And, we're happy to note, the clip gives us reason to hope for a Pixar summer blockbuster. Watch the clip >> Posted 02.23.12 by reelz
What does actor Gary Oldman think of most "behind-the-scenes" featurettes that show up as special features on DVD and Blu-ray releases? Well, he apparently doesn't think very highly of them, and he isn't shy about saying so.
In the trailer for When Harry Left Hogwarts, a true documentary directed by Morgan Matthews, it's clear that this isn't just another "Look What Fun We Had Making This Movie!" type of special feature. From the candid responses from Helena Bonham Carter, Jason Issacs, and Oldman, to the frank conversations with stars Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson, to the very serious advice Emma Thompson has for her for young co-stars, this is obviously a documentary that delves a little deeper. With Cars 2 handily winning the weekend's top box office spot, Disney/Pixar is already looking to the future by offering the teaser trailer for their upcoming movie, Brave.
Set in medieval Scotland, Brave (formerly titled The Bear and the Bow) is Pixar's first foray into the genre of fantasy and fairy tales, with the 3-D animated tale utilizing Hollywood's most well-known Scottish actors (outside of Sean Connery and Ewan McGregor), as illustrated in the movie's synopsis. read the synopsis and watch the trailer >> Posted 06.27.11 by Ryan
After the record-breaking success of Toy Story 3 and this summer's Cars 2, Pixar is returning to the art of telling original stories with Brave, it's 13th full-length feature film, set to hit theaters June 22, 2012.
EW posted a first look of the Scotland-based adventure, which will be Pixar's first fairy tale story with a female protagonist. According to EW, Brave is set in the mystical Scottish Highlands, where Merida is the princess of a kingdom ruled by King Fergus (Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (Emma Thompson). An unruly daughter and an accomplished archer, Merida one day defies a sacred custom of the land and inadvertently brings turmoil to the kingdom. In an attempt to set things right, Merida seeks out an eccentric old Wise Woman (Julie Walters) and is granted an ill-fated wish. Also figuring into Merida's quest -- and serving as comic relief -- are the kingdom's three lords: the enormous Lord MacGuffin (Kevin McKidd), the surly Lord Macintosh (Craig Ferguson), and the disagreeable Lord Dingwall (Robbie Coltrane).
Reese Witherspoon was set to voice the lead character but had to pull out because of scheduling conflicts and was replaced by Kelly Macdonald.
Brave was originally going to be directed by Brenda Chapman (The Prince of Egypt), who conceived of the project but she was replaced by Mark Andrews (One Man Band). Disney said the two will be credited as co-directors. Posted 03.28.11 by reelz
Director Christopher Nolan's sci-fi thriller Inception, otherwise known as the movie that's keeping a sequel to The Dark Knight on hold, has found the star power it needs to compete on its tough opening day of July 16, 2010, the same opening day as possible superhero blockbuster Thor. Variety reports that Leonardo DiCaprio will join Nolan for the first time to star in the thriller about the "architecture of the mind."
If going up against Thor wasn't pressure enough, consider that Thor's director Kenneth Brannagh used to be married to Inception producer and Nolan's current wife, Emma Thompson. You sure you don't want to just make another Batman, Nolan? Posted 03.04.09 by reelz
