After debuting at the Cannes Film Festival, Wes Anderson's Moonrise Kingdom received glowing review after glowing review, saying Anderson was "at his very best" in this "very beautiful and funny movie about grief and sorrow." Moonrise Kingdom opens this weekend in the U.S. Those familiar with Anderson's previous work (Rushmore, The Royal Tennenbaums, The Life Aquatic to name a few) have a good sense of the kind of movie it is. Still, it's been hard to penetrate a marketplace dominated by sequels and big-budget tentpoles — more namely, The Avengers.
No wonder Focus Features had Bill Murray give a funny video tour of the production — guided, if you will, by spiced rum. Murray breezes through the cast — Frances McDormand, the "psycho" Edward Norton, the "tall and Scottish" Tilda Swinton, Jason Schwartzman, and a "typecast" Bruce Willis — before taking a few digs at the movie's sets and Anderson's costume design and individual pant-length preferences. watch the video and check out the new posters >> Posted 05.22.12 by Ryan
One of this summer's highly anticipated movies includes a cast of misfit characters directed by a fan favorite director. No, we're not talking about Joss Whedon's The Avengers. Rather, Wes Anderson's Moonrise Kingdom (though star Edward Norton did play an Avenger in 2008's The Incredible Hulk).
To help you get acquainted with this cast of misfits, the studio released character posters introducing Scout Master Ward (Norton), Captain Sharp (Bruce Willis), Walt Bishop (Bill Murray), Laura Bishop (Frances McDormand), Custodial Guardian (Tilda Swinton), Cousin Ben (Jason Schwartzman), and Commander Pierce (Harvey Keitel). The first trailer has arrived for Moonrise Kingdom, the latest movie from director Wes Anderson (The Royal Tennenbaums, Rushmore).
Set in the 1960s, Moonrise Kingdom follows a pair of young boy and girl (newcomers Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward) who fall in love and decide to run away together and the hapless search to find them that involves the girl's parents (Bill Murray and Frances McDormand), the local sheriff (Bruce Willis) and a camp leader (Edward Norton), which allows Anderson the opportunity for yet another quirky uniform reminiscent of the the nautical uniforms in The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou and the red track suits from Royal Tennenbaums.
Told in Anderson's inimitable style, Moonrise Kingdom looks like a return to form after to live-action after the 2009 animated Fantastic Mr. Fox. watch the trailer >> Posted 01.13.12 by Ryan
Actor Sean Penn has always had an eclectic career, but since he won his second Best Actor Oscar for 2008's Milk, Penn has appeared in a variety of projects, including playing real-life diplomat Joseph Wilson in the docudrama thriller Fair Game and in a supporting role in director Terence Malick's poetic drama The Tree of Life.
Penn's latest role is a wealthy, soft-spoken rock star named Cheyenne in director Paolo Sorrentino's This Must Be the Place, which premiered in May at the Cannes Film Festival to reportedly mixed reviews. The movie, which follows Penn as he travels to reconnect with his dying father and then treks to find the Nazi officer that tortured his father during World War II, is Sorrentino's first movie in English, but has already secured a release in France, which why Twitch was able to track down a French-subtitled international trailer for the movie. For those wondering, yes, Penn's look was modeled after Robert Smith of the rock band The Cure. watch the trailer >> Posted 07.15.11 by Ryan
This morning Michael Bay broke some big casting news about Transformers 3 on his blog.
Transformers 3 has been going very well. We are going to shoot in LA, Chicago, Washington DC, Florida, Texas, Africa, Moscow, and China. On the talent front, we just locked in Frances McDormand and John Malkovich. Both amazing actors I've always wanted to work with. We also just got Ken Jeong, he is the super funny actor stuck in the trunk from "Hangover" and the Doctor from "Knocked Up."
We start shooting pre-shoots in about one month.
While we certainly appreciate the influx of talent these stars bring, the news came as quite a surprise after last week's announcement that Bay planned an updated look for the third installment. Posted 03.22.10 by reelz
