Which of this year's actresses deserve the industry’s highest honors?
With many of Hollywood's perenially favorite veteran actresses noticably absent from the big screen in 2012 — or having appeared in movies that simply failed to live up to expectations — the 2013 Best Actress nominees will likely be made up of mostly new faces and skew much younger than in years past. In fact, several of the actresses receiving Oscar buzz are in their '20s and one — Quvenzhané Wallis, star of Beasts of the Southern Wild — is only 9 years old, which would make her the youngest actress ever nominated for an Oscar should she get the nod. We already asked you to tell us which movies you thought were the best and which directors are most deserving of Oscar nominations, now tell us which actresses are worthy of the movie industry's highest honors, whether Best Actress or Best Supporting Actress.

Which Actress Should Play the Last Princess of Alderran?
Now that Disney has expanded its library of fairy tale princesses to include its first space princess, the question is: How does the "House of Mouse" plan to utilize Leia Organa, last princess of the doomed planet Alderran, twin brother to Luke Skywalker, and daughter of evil Sith warlord Darth Vader. Concurrent with the announcement of the purchase of Lucasfilm Ltd., Disney revealed that Star Wars: Episode VII would be blasting into theaters in 2015, which we later learned would be written by Michael Arndt (Little Miss Sunshine); however, nothing about the plot has been revealed.
All three of the principal actors who starred in the original trilogy — Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher — have expressed interest in returning in the new movie and it's likely that Disney will want to capitalize on the popularity of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and Leia Organa, but whether Disney brings back the original cast members as a way of bridging the original trilogy with the new trilogy or reboots the characters with younger actors is anyone's guess. Considering how well Paramount's Star Trek reboot was received by the general audience and even die-hard Trekkers and Trekkies, coupled with the fact that Disney skews young, we're thinking Star Wars will get the reboot.
We already asked you to vote for the best actors to play Luke Skywalker and Han Solo. Now, we want to know who you think has what it takes to wag her finger in the face of evil as the feisty princess with a preference for scoundrels?

The stars of the adaptation discuss getting into character at the London premiere.
The summer, so far, has been dominated by comic book movies and other assorted sequels, but the fall will offer a few more literary adaptations, including director Joe Wright's (Hanna) Anna Karenina.
Based on Leo Tolstoy's 1877 classic novel and adapted by playwright and screenwriter Tom Stoppard (Shakespeare in Love), the movie features one of the classic love triangles, as Anna (Keira Knightley) is caught between her love of Count Vronsky (Aaron Johnson) and her husband Alexei Karenin (Jude Law). A new, six-minute preview clip for the movie has debuted online, with a brief introduction by Wright, who explains that the movie was almost entirely shot in a dilapidated theater, as depicted in the recently released poster. watch the clip >> Posted 07.23.12 by Ryan
It's been a hot summer, but checking out the snow-filled new poster for this fall's Anna Karenina may cool you down. It also might make you want to yell "Hey! Anna! Look out for that train!"
So far, the photos released from this newest big-screen adaptation of Leo Tolstoy's 1877 novel show opulent sets and historically accurate, detailed costumes. It's no surprise that the historical details are on point since the movie is directed by Joe Wright, who has directed star Keira Knightley previously in Atonement as well as in 2005's Pride & Prejudice. This newest poster, which also serves as a bit of a spoiler as far as the ending goes, features Knightley, as the conflicted Anna, caught between the men in her life, Count Vronsky (Aaron Johnson) and her husband Alexei Karenin (Jude Law). Keira Knightley is engaged to boyfriend James Righton. Knightley's publicist confirmed the news, telling reporters “I can confirm that Keira is engaged to be married to James Righton.” Knightley began dating Klaxon, who is the keyboardist for the Klaxons band, early last year.
There was drama on Britney Spears' first day as a judge on The X Factor. First there were reports that Spears walked off the set after a contestant reportedly butchered her song, "Hold it Against Me." Spears did not immediately come back and four contestants auditioned in front of the remaining judges with Spears' seat empty. But a rep for the show said Spears was not upset over the song and that she "just took a short break." For her first day of shooting, Spears, 30, wore a tight hot-pink minidress with a sheer, plunging neckline, while fellow new judge Demi Lovato, 19, kept things cool in a green frock and leather jacket.
In an interview, Janet Jackson said she doesn't want her 14-year-old niece, Paris Jackson to start acting. "She's a very tough, smart girl. But it's a cutthroat industry. I wouldn't want my child to do it," Jackson told Prevention magazine. In December, Paris landed a role in the upcoming movie Lundon's Bridge and the Three Keys. Janet said she's worried Paris will miss out on childhood just like Paris' father, Michael Jackson.

Once again, Keira Knightley and director Joe Wright (Atonement, Pride & Prejudice) are teaming up for a period movie based on a novel. This time around, the duo is taking on the white-hot trend of basing a movie on a late 19th-century Russian novel dealing with the fallen bourgeois contrasted with the strength and intrinsic worth of the proletariat. Those are nearly as popular as movies about vampires fighting werewolves.
Four pics of Knightley as the title character in Anna Karenina were posted on the Focus Features website (and Collider), and they further illustrate the point that the actress can really wear any look from the past 250 years with panache. The new pics also feature Jude Law as Anna's dull politician husband Alexei Karenin and Aaron Johnson as the dashing Count Alexei Vronsky. (Seriously, Tolstoy? Two main characters with the same first name? This is why 12th graders hate you.) While only a few years ago it seemed impossible that Law could ever play the stodgy, boring husband, these photos make the casting decision look pitch perfect. If a meteor was certain to crash on Earth, bringing the end of the world with it, would you head out on a road trip to find your first love with your neighbor? That's what Steve Carell and Keira Knightley are up to in the upcoming dramedy Seeking a Friend for the End of the World. Of course, with the apocalypse looming, it's not your average road trip, as the pair encounter a world filled with varied responses to the end of days, including a over-friendly restaurant waitstaff, a by-the-book police officer, and your typical apocalypse looters and rioters.
Seeking a Friend for the End of the World is the feature directorial debut of screenwriter Lorene Scafaria, who wrote the similarly long-titled Nick and Nora's Infinite Playlist. The movie co-stars Patton Oswalt (Young Adult), Connie Britton (American Horror Story) and Adam Brody (Cop Out). watch the trailer >> Posted 02.10.12 by Ryan
Late last month, Garrett Hedlund (Tron: Legacy) was reported to be the "front-runner" for the lead role in the live-action adaptation of Akira, and now he's officially landed the role.
THR reports that Hedlund is in negotiations to star as Kaneda, the heroic leader of the Capsule biker gang in the post-apocalyptic city of New Manhattan (replacing Neo-Tokyo in the classic Japanese manga series by Katsuhiro Otomo). Eventually, Kaneda has to fight his fellow gang member Tetsuo who takes over the rival Clowns biker gang once his telekinetic powers awaken.
While Hedlund is the only cast member who has accepted an offer, other cast members could follow. Gary Oldman and Helena Bonham Carter were offered the roles of The Colonel and Lady Miyako, respectively, at the end of last month, and, reportedly, Keira Knightley has also been approached for a role.
