It's class war again in the medieval forest as the hero (Russell Crowe) stands up for the rights of the people in this new trailer for Ridley Scott's Robin Hood. What's on display here feels much closer to the spirit of the traditional Sherwood Forest hero, and less like the displaced Gladiator that seemed to be hinted at in earlier trailers and sneak peeks.
Robin is painted as a revolutionary, following in the footsteps of his father and becoming a champion of the ordinary folk against the cruel and arbitrary rule of King John (Oscar Isaac). Along the way, we get a first glimpse at Max Von Sydow as Maid Marian's father, who seems to be a kind of mentor to Robin. His daughter (Cate Blanchett), meanwhile, gets to show some of her own mettle, matter-of-factly threatening to sever Robin's manhood if he lays a hand on her. Posted 03.11.10 by reelz
Here's an upcoming action movie that has pretty much slipped under the radar.
Solomon Kane, a character from the stories of Robert E. Howard (Conan the Barbarian), is a 16th-Century Puritan who spends his days destroying evil wherever he finds it. In the movie adaptation, Kane has given up his life of violence in order to save his soul — but he picks up the blade again to save an innocent life as an evil force arises.
The movie is directed by Michael J. Bassett, who helmed Deathwatch and Wilderness, and stars James Purefoy (Resident Evil) as the title character, as well as Pete Postlethwaite, Jason Flemyng, and Max von Sydow.
Here's the Solomon Kane trailer and a new behind-the-scenes video clip. It looks a little bit like a Van Helsing clone, but we're interested anyway. Posted 09.16.09 by reelz
Martin Scorsese's latest, Shutter Island, was originally a project for director David Fincher, who has made a career out of dark, psychological thrillers like Seven. It's an adaptation of the book written by Dennis Lehane (Mystic River).
Shutter Island stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Mark Ruffalo as U.S. Marshals sent to investigate the disappearance of a patient from a mental hospital where the doctors (Ben Kingsley and Max von Sydow) are performing radical treatments. Posted 06.11.09 by Ryan
