Leonardo DiCaprio is hoping to add "serial killer" to his varied acting resume. Deadline reports that DiCaprio and his Appian Way production company have purchased the rights to author Erik Larson's non-fiction novel The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic And Madness At The Fair That Changed America. DiCaprio will play Dr. HH Holmes, a Chicago serial killer who is believed to have murdered anywhere from 27 to 200 people in and around the time of the 1893 Chicago World's Fair. Holmes established The World's Fair Hotel, which contained a gas chamber, crematorium, a dissecting table, and, obviously, a limited check-out policy.
Producer Jennifer Killoran called Devil in the White City "truly a one-of-its-kind American story about our nation's first serial killer," while producers Michael Shamberg and Stacey Sher called the story "a big, entertaining thriller in an incredible setting that will appeal to a worldwide audience."
A screenwriter and director are currently being sought for the project, which reportedly has been something DiCaprio has been interested in since it was published in 2003. Posted 11.04.10 by Ryan
