At the 2010 Comic-Con, Saw producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules announced that Saw 3D (a.k.a. Saw VII) would be the last installment in the long-running franchise. Even the DVD art for Saw 3D claimed the sequel would be "the Final Chapter," but fans agreed with Saw director and franchise executive producer James Wan, who said that a return was "inevitable" earlier this year.
It looks like Lionsgate, the studio that released the Saw movies, agrees. During a talk with CNBC (via Dread Central), Lionsgate Vice Chairman Michael Burns revealed that Saw will likely make a return. "I'm sure, some day, you'll see Saw back in the picture," revealed Burns while discussing the studio's upcoming slate.
While Burns' comments aren't exactly a commitment to produce an eighth Saw movie, it's the first admission from the studio that Saw was not, in fact, finished. Of course, with Saw 3D earning $136 million worldwide, another Saw would not be much of a surprise.
