The bases are loaded, and Baseketball hits a grand slam right out of the park. The hilarious, satirical movie bashing modern-day professional sports covers the basics with the traditional cliché of “I laughed, I cried and I laughed some more” style of screenplay. Baseketball is sure to become an adult household essential.
Baseketball features a star studded cast from director David Zucker (Naked Gun) to Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the masterminds behind the hit animated television show South Park. The raunchy film also features celebrity guest appearances by famous athletes such as Reggie Jackson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Dale Earnhardt.
Some-20 years ago, Joe Cooper (Trey Parker), or Coupe, makes a verbal bond to his best friend, Doug Reemer (Matt Stone) that he is one day going to be a great sports star. Now a poor, jobless and girlfriendless bum, he has no choice but to turn things around “…Starting tomorrow, we’re going to stop playing games.” However, with lack of desire to get a real job, Coupe and Reemer are confined to playing Baseketball, a driveway game that they made up incorporating America’s past time with basketball. After months of playing, Baseketball has turned into a community sports marvel and is picked up by billionaire Ted Denslow (Ernest Borgnine) who turns Basketball into the biggest sport in America.
After Denslow’s tragic death, ownership of the Milwaukee Beers, along with control over the National Baseketball League is left in the hands of Joe Cooper. However, if he cannot find it in himself to win the Denslow Cup next season, the team will revert to the lovely Yvette (Jenny McCarthy). Now Coupe is in a gruesome battle with Yvette and rich entrepreneur Baxter Cain (Robert Vaughn) for control of the beloved Beers. To hurt the cause even more, Coupe and Reemer fall into a civil war over the beautiful Janna Reid (Yasmine Bleeth), the director of the “Dream Come True” foundation for kids. However, this is only the beginning. Reaching the final game against the Dallas Felons, Coupe has to now fight against the odds to win the Denslow Cup, sweep Janna off her feet and keep control over the National Baseketball League.
Along with a remarkable cast and brilliant screen play, Baseketball also features a unique soundtrack with music that rounds the rhythmic bases of the movie. Among the lineup of talented musicians is the hit band Reel Big Fish putting out the Milwaukee Beers theme song Beer.
However, loaded with racial and sex oriented jokes, Baseketball may come off as offensive to some viewers. There is also brief nudity and a lot of references to balls (as seen on the cover). Nevertheless, with hilarious and amazing performances by its stars, brilliant screenplay and foot-tapping soundtrack, this raunchy comedy of many proportions will reach home plate hit after hit or in some cases, shot after shot.
