This was one of Robert Downey Jr.'s funniest movies. I'm glad I saw it. Because before I didn't really know much about Charlie Chaplin, so after I saw it I knew evertthing about him.
A tour-de-force performance from a 26-year old Robert that earned him an Oscar nomination. (Definitely should have won, and would have if Al Pacino hadn't gotten a "life-time achievement" sympathy award for "Scent of a Woman".) Here Robert showed the world what he was capable of, with inspiration from the great Chaplin himself and the guidance of Sir Richard Attenborough as well. Drama, comedy, romance, pathos, aging, ballet-like grace... every aspect of great acting is inside him, and it's wonderful to see him reaping the rewards now after so many first-rate performances in his 25-year career.
