This movie is a riot, and a female representation of myself. Firends have ben calling me tankboy for years since this movie... The effects were fantastic for it time, and the mix of comic animation and reality were a hoot!! I think this movie was fantastic a deserves it "cult" status!!!
Tank Girl is one whale of a funny movie! Perhaps the best ever of the comicbook genre, it is well on the way, if not already there, to cult status. Made in 1995, before the big wave of this type film hit the silver screen,Tank Girl, based on the rather obscure British comic character, is simply a laugh a minute. Lorie Petty in the lead role of Rebecca Buck, alias, Tank Girl, is just about perfect. Profane, gutsy, outlandish to the hilt, no one else could have brought the character to such gloriously outrageous screen life. "Tanky" as fans of the comi, call the character ,had nothing to complain about in Petty's potrayl of their beloved heroine. Naomi Watts, as the quieter, more intellectual, Jett Girl, was the straight woman in the female duo. This was one of Watts' earliest big screen roles and she did appear a bit overwhelmed, at times. However, by the end of the film, she really got her teeth into the role. The Rippers (kangaroo-human mutants) were hilarious. Rapper, Ice-T, as the profoundly bad tempered T-Saint, snarled with just the right amount of teeth showing and Jeff Kober, as the adorably sweet Booga (Tank Girl's love interest), were the stand-outs in the pac of genetically altered super warriors. Malcolm McDowell had the role of Kesslee, the arch-enemy of Tank Girl, and played it with such relish, that one could almost believe that he took the character's attributes a little too much to heart. The special effects were top notch and the director, Rachel Talalay, did a creative job with the material, at hand. She and the studio waged a battle over the final cut of the film. The studio won and a number of scenes were cut from the video and DVD release. Serious fans can find a lot of the deleted scenes at various sites on the net. Tank Girl rates a 10/10 on the comedy scale and if you really like to laugh, then this is just the film for you!
