I admit i was skeptical upon walking into the theatre. I mean there is Justin Biebers everywhere especially on twitter and one is prey to all of the hateful things one hears its almost subconscious how we can accept popular opinion. I knew this movie was directed by john Chu of Step Up 3D fame so I had to give it a chance. I wasn't a huge fan of Justin's Biebers' music either but love a good show and the trailers had promise for what looked like a good concert.
In summary this concert reminded me of the great concert documentary films of my youth such as U2's Rattle and Hum and Depeche Mode 101 but for the Internet Age. This movie takes us from Justin's faith filled beginnings in a humble Canadian town including having parents who separate not long after he was born. His mother proved an instrumental role in helping Justin have the freedom to peruse his artistic dreams. We later see the genius of Scooter Braun, Usher, LA Reid and other established talents help Justin achieve his dream of making it to the top.
The film pivots around an upcoming sell out performance at Madison Square Garden and the drama that occurs just days before. There is a plethora of You Tube clips and other archival footage giving us Justin's Background story.
The concert footage is amazing, John Chu really stepped up his game here and the concert footage and 3d really make you want to get out of your seat and dance and sing along!
This movie helped inspire me and remind me that dreams can really come true. Go Justin!!
