I'm no expert on the matter but wasn't she French-American or something? What kind of accent did she really have? I agree that Katie Holmes should have worked a little harder on perfecting whatever her actual accent was... its driving me crazy watching it
She was born in Southampton, NY and spent her childhood in East Hampton, NY and in McLean, Virginia and Newport, Rhode Island. There are so many varieties of the English language, especially in the north east US, that it is difficult to hear the differences. PBS did a series called The Story of English. Great!
