Demain Bichir

A BETTER LIFE made me, (a woman of an Irish background) begin to understand what it is like to want a better life for my family. Demian Bichir played Carlos, a hard working man who wanted a better life for his son and was forced to live in fear every day of his life. Mr. Bichir did an outstanding job & he like Carlos will get screwed out of this award he so richly deserves. Carlos tried to obtain citizenship, but a lawyer stole his money. Why ? I don't know. Greed ? When was the last time you wanted a job mowing lawns? So let's keep the immigranton laws & give back the Statue of Liberty to France. This movie was about tearing a father & son apart..all in the name of the law or was it because he came from Mexico ? Every "legal" American came from a different country. The only non immigrents are Native Americans & we all know what happened to them. The U.S.A. turned away the Jews when Hitler was in power. Hollywoood made zillions of money with movies about the treatment of Jews in Germany..after the fact. I am so angry this movie did not get the attention it deserved, "but this is America."
At least a few people had the courage to make this film. Mr. Bichir has won far more than a silly oscar. He earned respect. He made some people think about what "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness really means. Remember those words ? How about, " And justice for all ?
