In honor of Curiosity's successful landing on Mars we take a look at some of our favorite Martian movies
I am so glad I caught this piece on Hollywood Dailies featuring a list of films with Mars as the backdrop--and "John Carter," rightfully so, belongs at the top of the list. In the five months since it opened, it has become my absolute favorite film ever. Taylor Kitsch makes for the perfect hero--a handsome, dashing and engaging grown-up Peter Pan (with the best eight-pack around)! Lynn Collins as the brainy and combat capable Dejah Thoris became the greatest of all Disney Princesses in that wonderful role. If you regrettably listened to the pundits and missed this film in the theaters, "redeem your unworthiness" (as the heroic Sola would say) and check out "John Carter." You will become as addicted as millions of viewers around the world have done!

Some great movies in the list, but the best of them all is John Carter. Such a fantastic film and so let down by its own studio's marketing.
Totally agree! Been obsessed with John Carter ever since my first viewing. Just got my nephews to watch it this weekend... they can't stop taking about it. Love that movie
John Carter was fun and entertaining! I saw it 6 times at the theater! Don't miss it - the professional critics were way wrong about it!

Oh I absolutely LOVED John Carter! Coolest Mars Sci-Fi ever. It deserved way better marketing by Disney so that more people could have gone to see it opening weekend. Those that didn't are missing out on life! :)
John Carter was certainly my favorite "Mars' film! John Carter (from Mars). Very bad marketing on Disney's part, but an exceptional film that I loved! Let's go Back To Barsoom!
Great list of movies about Mars. I noticed some were missing, like Ghosts of Mars, Robinson Crusoe on Mars, Red Planet, and others I can't think of off the top of my head. I LOVE Mars and enjoyed a lot of the Martian films, too. Mars Attacks was awesome and one of my favorite films of all time is John Carter! Wish they'd left the full title "John Carter of Mars" though. I think it would have done better at the box office if they had.
