Desi Arnaz was famed for playing the much-loved character, Ricky Ricardo, in the 1950s TV series ‘I Love Lucy’. Almost 30 years later, in the early hours of December 2nd, 1986, Desi died. He was 69 years old. Born in Cuba, 16-year-old Desi & his family were exiled to Miami following the 1933 revolution. Starting from zero, Desi’s drive to succeed saw him rise to fame & garner attention as the bongo-playing leader of a Latin orchestra. With his Cuban charisma & boyish good looks he soon won the heart of up & coming film star, Lucille Ball. Together, they would change the face of TV with the series ‘I Love Lucy’. But Desi was so much more than just a TV star – forming their company, Desilu he became one of the most powerful men in TV. But his success would become his downfall. She eventually marries a fourth and final time, to actor Robert Foxworth, and dies too soon at only 62, from colon cancer. But like Lucille Ball before her, Elizabeth becomes an influential Hollywood female powerhouse, a trailblazer who continues to bewitch millions of TV viewers around the world.

At 1.00am on May 13, 2019 Doris Day died, aged 97. Doris was America’s sweetheart, the girl next door with the golden voice who’s virginal image won the hearts of millions. But behind the dazzling smile Doris’ life was blighted by tragedy after tragedy stemming from a childhood that left her traumatized and in pain. As Doris rose to fame her genuine talent and no nonsense honesty took her to the very top, but she was pained and frustrated by her public image, which she believed denied her true character. And when Doris had finally had enough of the spotlight, and left the glitz and glamour of Hollywood behind to pursue a new life away from the spotlight, her fans never let her down, supporting her until the very end of her long and generous life when she was tragically brought down by a fatal case of pneumonia. Dr Michael Hunter, world renowned medical examiner, will investigate and analyze all the available evidence to find out how this icon lived and died; he’ll explore Doris’ medical history and first hand accounts from her life, to explain how she managed to overcome the trauma of her early years, to become a singing superstar and a spokeswoman for animals across the globe.

On July 3 2012, Americans were saddened by the death of Andy Griffith. Andy was notoriously private, and very little is known about what happened, or the state of his health in the last few years of his life. Dr Hunter will be analysing every detail in the available information, to piece together what led to his demise. In a career spanning almost seventy years, he had charmed audiences as an actor, comedian and recording artist. But it was his performance as Sheriff Andy Taylor, in The Andy Griffith Show, that catapulted him into the hearts of Americans everywhere. Beloved for this character’s gentle kindness and good humour, audiences believed he was their friend and father figure. But the public perception of Andy was at odds with who he was. Friends recall a Jekyll and Hyde personality and a man who became increasingly reclusive. Andy’s death certificate states that he died as a result of a heart attack, after years of suffering from other illnesses. Dr Hunter’s investigation builds up a picture of a man whose private habits and behaviours left him susceptible to heart disease in multiple ways. Though his death, at 86, may not have come as a surprise, what did raise eyebrows was the fact that he was buried in the grounds of his home within four and a half hours of the 911 call alerting the emergency services that he was unresponsive. As part of his investigation Dr Hunter will uncover whether this bears any significance on the manner in which he died.
