Vincent “The Chin” Gigante deserved an Oscar. For thirty years he pretended to be insane in order to evade justice. But behind the crazy act lurked the vicious, scheming, murdering boss of one of New York’s five crime families. Once the act was busted so was he. He ended his days, somewhat relieved, behind bars.

Henry Hill was a wannabe mobster who set up the biggest heist in American history at the time – yet he could never fully cash in because he wasn’t Italian. He was seduced by the fake glamour and kinship of gangster life. He never saw the icy treachery behind the façade. He had to become a rat to survive.

Anthony “Gaspipe” Casso was born into the Mafia. From the get-go, he was a brutal thug with a love of violence. The Mob welcomed him with open arms. He made millions for them, and for himself. But he was psychotic and soon became severely paranoid. The bodies began piling up. He became a rat, but still got 450 years in the slammer.

Carmine “The Snake” Persico is a master of deceit. He committed one of the biggest murders in Mafia history, then double-crossed his way into power. He spent most of his treacherous career behind bars. While behind bars he ruled a crime family, conducted three wars, and ordered many murders.

Sammy “The Bull” Gravano was much more than a vicious hitman with 19 murders to his name. He ran a string of lucrative businesses and became the Underboss of New York’s biggest crime family. He was loyal, obedient, and extremely dangerous. When his boss betrayed him, Sammy helped the Feds destroy the New York Mob.

John “The Telfon Don” Gotti murdered his way to the top of New York’s most powerful Mafia family. Indictments came and went, nothing ever stuck to Gott. Rich, powerful, and in love with himself, Gotti was blinded by the glare of the media lights and fell from grace. He died in prison.

When James “Whitey” Bulger was murdered in prison in 2018, it marked the end of an era in Boston organized crime that dates to the 50’s when Bulger was just another thug in the streets of ‘Southie’. At the time, Boston was the site of heist so big it was dubbed The Crime of the Century. While Bulger was in prison in the 60’s the Irish Gang War erupted with the infamous Winter Hill Gang coming out on top. During the 1970’s, Bulger rose up the ranks of Winter Hill. With the help of his crooked FBI handler, his competition was removed, one by one, until he emerged on top as the face of organized crime in Boston.

While James ‘Whitey’ Bulger was ascending the ranks of organized crime in Boston, other mobsters were up to their own nefarious business, from stealing priceless art from world famous museums, to robbing armored cars and using the proceeds to fund arm shipments to the IRA. But when the head of the Italian Mafia was arrested in the 80’s, a power vacuum resulted in chaos on the streets of Boston. With a bloody gang war on their hands, law enforcement had finally had enough. In the mid 90’s, as indictments finally rained down, Whitey Bulger vanished. He’d spent over 15 years as America’s most famous fugitive, until the US Marshall’s Service found him hiding in plain sight.
